General:- This 6.3 mile is different from
others in Gloucestershire and I considered not including it because it's more
like walking in a park than normal outdoor walking in the Cotswolds. So why did
I include it? First it is flat, easy to follow & there are good views. Also, the paths are unlikely
to be muddy so you don't need boots. What's more, if the route is too long you
can take a short cut by turning right at waypoint 9 back to the start via Bell
Lane, ideal if you have children. The combination of these factors make this
route ideal for those new to outdoor walking and you will see many taking a
Sunday stroll. Because of the wide open spaces it is also a great place to
practice compass or GPS navigation. (GPS
length 4.3 miles). 2 Pubs on the route.
How to get there: Park in Market street by the war
memorial. From Tetbury take the B4014 to Avening. As you enter Avening turn
right where the road swings left in front of Cross Keys pub at SO 8842 9788.
Pass pub on your right and continue on for 1.25 miles and fork left SO 8844
9670. Drive for another 1.25 miles, ignore sign to "Minchinhampton
Common". As you enter Minchinhampton follow car park signs and turn R into
Market Street. From Stroud on the A419 turn off right to Hyde at SO 8746 0221.
Go right at "T" junction at SO 8788 0190 then left at "Y"
junction at SO 8762 0163. This takes you directly into Market Street.
